The effect of group art activities on school adjustment for children whose parents were divorced

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect that group art activities affects children with difficulty in school adjustment, whose parents were divorced. The subjects of the study were selected as 16 elementary school children who study in After School Study Class of D Welfare. Treatment group was randomly divided into 2 groups as experiment group and control group, respectively 8 persons. The period of the study was from February 20, 2003 till May 9, 2003 and the program was composed of 19 times of experiments with 2 days a week and 90 minutes per experiment. To confirm the effect of group art activities, the changes were measured through school adjustment tests (before and after treatment) and KSD. In addition, the changes in school adjustment section had 3 planned comparisons such as before group art activities, the 10th experiment throughout the activities and after group art activities according to each teacher¡¯s (in charge of the subjects) reports. The results of this study are such as the following. First, group art activities showed the positive changes in school adjustment of the subjects in the school adjustment test. Second, before the activities, there were an empty looking school, teachers holding whip, disturbed and scary mind about school, and they never seemed to share their feelings with friends or teachers in KSD. Third, the school adjustment report about children whose parents were divorced, indicated that group art activities positively affects the changes of school adjustment.
